Saving energy: 7 tips to reduce your bill
In times of high energy bills, every tip is welcome to save money, isn’t it?
Some small changes in daily habits can make the difference in consumption and, consequently, in how much you will pay.
We have listed some tips that, at any time of the year, are very useful and will save you money by avoiding waste.
1. Unplug
Whatever you are not using and is not essential to keep plugged in, unplug it. Besides the refrigerator, few things need to stay plugged in.
That habit of keeping the cell phone and notebook chargers always plugged in. Besides the TV and the microwave oven, always with their “lights” on, can be villains of your bill.
2. Choose appliances that use less
Air conditioners and refrigerators, for example, are responsible for high percentages of your expenses and, if they are economical models, they can save you a lot.
Always look for appliances with the A energy efficiency label. In the case of air conditioning, inverter models are the best.
LED TVs are the best at the moment. And in the case of washing machines, choose those with higher capacity, since you will use them less often.
Evaluate if it is worth it to change some appliances. It may seem like a big expense, but in the long run it can have a big impact on your energy bill.
3. Set the timer
This tip applies especially to the air conditioner and the TV, if you are used to sleeping with both on.
Set the timer so that they turn off by themselves if you fall asleep.
4. Change the lights
Especially if you have many around the house, prefer LED bulbs, which consume up to 80% less than incandescent bulbs.
5. Use with efficiency
It is possible to use appliances more efficiently and save money.
For example: avoid long showers with the electric shower. If you are going to iron clothes, accumulate as much as possible and iron them all at once. Avoid opening and closing the refrigerator all the time.
In the case of air conditioning, size the appliance well for the size of the space. One too big for the space it generates is not necessary, and one too small will spend too much and will not achieve the desired result.
In addition, experts recommend keeping the temperature between 23°C and 25°C.
6. Avoid the stand-by mode
In microwaves, TVs and other appliances, it is very common and “practical” to keep the appliances in this mode. But it continues practically as if it were on, consuming energy.
7. Abuse natural light and ventilation
Open windows, curtains and doors. Keep the rooms in light colors. If possible, use large windows and glass in your home.
All of this favors the entry of natural light and prevents you from having to turn on lights during the day to illuminate the house.
In addition, more open and ventilated spaces save expenses with fans and air conditioning, since the climate is always very pleasant.
